Assistant Vice President & Director of Communications

Gina brings her extensive experience in journalism and public relations and dedication to Tennessee to her position as assistant vice president and director of communications for the UT System. Gina received a bachelor’s degree in English-Journalism at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville and a master’s degree in Communications at UT Knoxville. Gina has also completed fellowships in professional programs in higher education management at Vanderbilt University and Harvard University, and is a graduate of the UT Leadership Institute. Prior to joining the UT family 12 years ago, Gina worked as a reporter for the Knoxville News Sentinel and as public relations manager for Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville. 

Gina’s favorite part of her job is the opportunity to work with every UT campus or institute as a member of the UT System administrative staff. As a reporter and public relations manager, Gina’s work won multiple awards including a Scripps-Howard national award for breaking news coverage, twice the SPJ Best of Show award, and twice the PRSA Best of Show award. In addition to her extensive professional achievements, Gina also serves her community and profession as a TNAchieves program mentor, member of the Volunteer Chapter (Knoxville) of the Public Relations Society of America, Tennessee College Public Relations Association, and as vice president of the board of directors of the East Tennessee Society of Professional Journalists.

When not at the office, you can find Gina hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains or at a Cincinnati Reds game with her husband, Bill. Gina and her husband live in Knoxville with their three cats.
